Abstract | The government will excavate a ruined castle's cellar to hunt for the famous Amber Room treasure that was given by Germany to Russia in 1716 and disappeared in 1945, Der Spiegel magazine reported Sunday. The magazine said federal interior ministry officials would start excavating the cellar of the castle in northern Hesse state on Oct. 16. The report was based on a tip from a 58-year-old businessman whose father told him of the location on his deathbed 24 years ago. |
